alt_leeThis is my last post here on the Lock. I turn 17 tomorrow! Funny, because I haven't really posted much, just commented mostly. Anyway, I'll see you lot back at school and Terry, you will be hearing from me, because I'll write to you, using Pig.
I'm going to miss this, talking freely the way the Lock lets us do, but you know that since I hang out with Gred and Forge, I'll be keeping my hand in with causing mayhem.
Ron and Nev, we'll be counting on you mostly to keep us up-to-date with what you think we should know. But this safe space is up to you to run now.

1) Sirius Black and Neville's parents and me are all part of the Wand Smugglers.
2) We're sheltering Terry.
3) You can join after you passed NEWTs and it isn't fair I know but I didn't get to pick that.
4) And they're going to come up with a passphrase I think so we can tell them it's us, if something really bad happens. But I don't know what it will be yet.
And that's all I'm supposed to say, but I thought I had better do it NOW.

She's gotta be. She says that all the time, about having to get through NEWTs before you can do any of the good stuff. I mean, mostly she says it to the twins. But it's like it's her biggest thing of all. Like we're going to quit school and be rubbish pickers or pedlars or summat.

The thing is, I'm totally NOT asking Mum if I'm right. I mean, I want to ALL the time I'm home. I can't stop thinking about it. About Dad, too. But that's why I can't: it would be really, really bad for me to know. And they're right not to tell us who they are, all of them.
But it's hard not to think about who they must be.

I don't ever want to have to keep a really big secret from you again.
But also it depends on what they're doing. I mean they've said they're not like Dogstar and they don't approve of Dogstar's methods but I don't know if that means they don't approve of blowing up Quidditch stadiums to try to get at one person and never mind if thousands more are in the way, or if it's that they don't think anyone should ever kill anyone else ever, or if it's something between that. And what sort of world do they want, anyway, I mean obviously it's one where muggleborns gets to have wands, but do they want us to go back to the Statute of Secrecy, or is there some other idea they have? And how do they think they're going to make that happen?
I wonder sometimes if some of the people on the Council really thought this is what it would be like? Or if some of them are just showing loyal, like us? I mean, look at Mr Warrington, being ordered into the arena and casting the Mark into the sky and then being killed by the Lord Protector for ... fun, as far as I could tell. Was that what he thought he was fighting for when he signed up?

Date: 2012-08-06 08:19 pm (UTC)I'd want to know too, and really talk it over first, and even then, I'm no Sirius Black. Or Alice Longbottom. Even if half the things they are supposed to have done are made up.
I wonder sometimes if it would be sort of like signing up for the Council. I mean, thinking you're doing it for the right reasons, but having it be way bigger than you ever thought. Or having to do things you never thought you would. Talking with Terry and making a bag to help him get out is one thing. Keeping muggleborn people hidden in our flat to get them to safety is another altogether. And that's just what we THINK they do.
I know that it's not right, what's been going on, how people like Hermione and Terry and your mum are treated, and it's like now that I've sorted out that it isn't right, it's wrong of me to not do anything about it at all, but it's scary to think on.
I'm glad you wouldn't without me.

Maybe it could be a question about some really obscure spell. 'Have you ever cast the Romanian Left-Footed Toenail Hex?' Or something like that. And the answer could be, 'Yes, but I'm hesitant to talk about the experience.' Because then in response to that we could say part of what we needed to say, like, 'it's a really urgent question, can we go somewhere private' or 'it's really Neville who needs help' or whatever.
I don't know, though, if there's one thing I learned from that codes class on Thursday, it's that the lot of us aren't as subtle and clever as we think we are. (And Patil's not as funny as she thinks she is, but THAT I already knew.)

Bundy and I have both been using them, and we think they really help with keeping up the pace and feeling positive even when we've been dead exhausted. We told some other people about them, and they want to give them a try, too. So tell them to send as many as they can.
